Backstage at the BBC

The BBC have always managed to get their websites "right". They invest heavily into their websites and their sites are regularly mentioned when good design and good content management are discussed.

Now, the BBC are inviting fellow web developers backstage.

backstage.bbc.co.uk is the BBC's new developer network, providing content feeds for anyone to build with.  Alternatively, share your ideas on new ways to use BBC content. This is your BBC.  We want to help you play.

In a nutshell, they're inviting us to use their syndicated content in new and innovative ways. I've said before that I love finding new ways to apply "old" technology and this project is just that.

The timing couldn't be better. We've submitted IPB 2.1's RSS import feature as a feature prototype and set up a test forum for importing RSS feeds on our corporate board.

Yes, BBC sure does make good sites.
I checked out the backstage thing yesterday. Great thing, I hope some Swdedish newspapers also will make something like this.

Just a couple of questions about the IPS RSS import feature:
1. Is it possible to choose to have the source as a topic description?
2. Will the topic titles be limited in length just as normal topics?
3. If the feed contain images, will these show in the post?

1) Not currently but it won't take much to do that.
2) Yes
3) Yes

Will it be possible to import all the items from a feed (bbc for example) into one topic. so you are importing news from 10 diff. feeds and you have 10 topics and each topic is updated with the feed items as posts ?

When the updater is ran will it include it in the "Last Post Info" section when viewing forum listings?
